Step into Answers is our way of opening up conversations about mentorship – how it looks and what it means when you are at both ends of the journey. We ask our mentors a few simple, yet powerful questions, about being mentors in the Step into your Future program for law students, rolled out by BACIU PARTNERS in 2025. Each of them chose the questions that resonated most and replied in their own voice. Their answers speak volumes.

We are pleased to continue with the next episode. Our guest for this episode is George-Mihai Irimescu, Senior Intellectual Property Counsel.

• What has been the moment that impressed you the most so far in your interaction with the students you have mentored?

George: I was deeply impressed by their courage to venture into areas they were encountering for the first time, followed by the very high quality of the materials they delivered. They demonstrated a profound understanding of new concepts, far exceeding my expectations as a mentor. So, in many of the moments when I reviewed their work, I was genuinely impressed.

• What have you learned from students through your interaction with them as a mentor?

George: Every interaction with students is a new lesson about patience, and a constant reminder that now is the time to ‘be there’ for them, just as your own mentors once were—or as you wished they had been. Students teach you to reconnect with the beginner you once were, and to rediscover those qualities that helped you become the professional you are today.”

• In summary: from your perspective as a mentor, what does the BACIU PARTNERS internship project concretely add to the students who join us during this program?

George: In my view, the BACIU PARTNERS internship gives students the opportunity to discover a professional working environment that sets their expectations in line with healthy standards. They have the chance to work alongside experienced professionals, from whom they can learn not only legal skills, but also the nuances of professional conduct.

• If students were to complete this program with just one thought in mind, what would you want that to be?

George: To keep their curiosity intact. To never stop asking questions, doubting, and wanting more from themselves.

• Care a fost momentul care te-a impresionat cel mai mult până acum în interacțiunea cu studenții pe care i-ai mentorat?

George: Am fost puternic impresionat atât de curajul lor de a se aventura în domenii pe care le întâlnesc pentru prima dată, urmat de o calitate foarte ridicată a materialelor pe care le-au livrat. Au dat dovadă de o înțelegere profundă a unor noțiuni noi, depășind cu mult așteptările mele, ca mentor. Prin urmare, în multe dintre momentele în care am luat contact cu rezultatele muncii lor am fost impresionat.

• Ce ai învățat tu de la studenți, în interacțiunea ta cu ei ca mentori?

George: Fiecare interacțiune cu studenții este o nouă lecție despre răbdare, și o reamintire constantă a faptului că acum este momentul ”să fii acolo” pentru ei așa cum au fost mentorii tăi pentru tine, sau cum ți-ai fi dorit ca ei să fie pentru tine. Studenții te învață să te reîntorci la începătorul care ai fost, și să îți redescoperi acele calități care te-au ajutat să ajungi profesionistul de astăzi.

• Ca o sumarizare: din perspectiva ta de mentor, ce adaugă concret proiectul de internship BACIU PARTNERS studenților care ne sunt alături de-a lungul acestei perioade?

George: Din punctul meu de vedere, proiectul de internship BACIU PARTNERS oferă studenților posibilitatea de a descoperi un mediu de lucru profesionist, care le poate seta așteptările profesionale  conform unor standarde sănătoase. Au ocazia să lucreze alături de buni profesioniști, de la care pot învăța atât lucruri ce țin de ariile juridice practicate, cât și de comportamentul lor profesionist.

• Dacă studenții ar finaliza acest program cu un singur gând în minte, care ai vrea să fie acela?

George: Să își păstreze curiozitatea neatinsă. Să nu înceteze niciun moment să își pună întrebări, să se îndoiască, să dorească mai mult de la ei înșiși.
