Copyright and AI and Fighting Online Scams – Key Themes during INTA 2024 Leadership Meeting

November 2024

For those concerned with staying ahead of the development curve in the dynamic field of intellectual property – from both technical and managerial related points of view, participating in the prestigious INTA Leadership Meetings is crucial. It provides unparalleled opportunities to engage with global thought leaders, discuss emerging trends, and participate in the initiatives that shape the future of the sector. This year’s meeting was no different and offered critical insights into the evolving challenges and opportunities within IP, reinforcing the importance of collaboration and innovation in navigating this complex landscape.

Leadership Labs are always a great opportunity to exchange ideas on effectively leading and managing your committee,” shared George Irimescu on elements that are evolving as part of the agenda of IP professionals closely engaged with INTA and high on the rooster of the community. Also, as essential takeaways, George mentioned:

  • Interconnection remains critical: The Comparative Review of the Interplay Between Copyright and AI in Various Jurisdictions was a great opportunity to understand the most recent practice on the authorship and copyrightability of AI-assisted works in Brazil, the US and the UK;
  • No 2024-gathering without Scams and AI talks: The panel on Fighting Online Scams in the AI Era brought insights into both the threats and opportunities AI brings regarding online scams.

George act as Vice-Chair of INTA’s Harmonization of Trademark Law and Practice Committee. In this capacity, he assists with coordinating the two subcommittees—the Free Trade Agreements Subcommittee and the International Classification Subcommittee. As former chair of the International Classification Subcommittee, he actively engages in ongoing projects. The last example is participating as a speaker for the Trademark Examiners Workshop for the Zambia and Rwanda IPOs in a session dedicated to aspects related to the Nice Classification.
